The title is
borrowed from a song on Third World's album "Serious Business". The piece was
inspired by Nelson Mandela, a young lion who was captured in his prime and caged
for unjust reasons.
I suppose that those who imprisoned Mandela were certain they had broken his spirit after 28 years and transformed him from a lion into a lamb. This piece represents the image that I believe Mandela presented to his captors. He appeared as a sleeping lion, but kept an unseen watchful eye. He survived those 28 years with the strength. clarity, vision, power and presence of mind to rise and rule over those who oppressed him. |
